Obituary for Betty Cowey (Drexler)
Betty Lou (Drexler) Cowey, 84, entered into rest surrounded by her family on Wednesday, February 7, 2018 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Leroy “Lee” Cowey.
Betty was born in Philadelphia on May 7, 1933, daughter of the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Scholes) Drexler.
Betty was a homemaker. She was a member of Messiah United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and a Lay Reader. She graduated from Centenary Junior College with an associate degree. She loved knitting, but the most important thing to Betty was her family, they were her life.
She is survived by three children, Laurie E. Stewart of York, Patricia A. Smith and her husband, Theodore of York, and Donald Cowey and his wife, Heidi of Conneaut, OH; four grandchildren, T. Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Laura, Devin C. Cowey and his wife, Carmelita, Sarah E. West, and Ryan-Michael Ports; two great grandsons, Westyn and Camdon; a great granddaughter, Jordan; a brother, Robert Drexler and his wife, Yvonne; and a daughter-in-law, Lori Cowey. She was preceded in death by a son, Joseph R. Cowey and a brother, Joseph Drexler.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, February 14, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Messiah United Methodist Church, 1300 N. Beaver Street, York, with the Rev. Robert A. Vizthum officiating. There will be a viewing on Wednesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
