Obituary for Robert "Carp" Carpenter
Robert F. “Carp” Carpenter, 82, of York passed away on January 7, 2018 at York Hospital. He was the husband of the late Mary Tedesco Carpenter who passed away December 22, 2009.
Robert was born on July 16, 1935 in York. He was the son of the late Edward Carpenter and Evelyn Shue Carpenter.
Robert was employed by the York Water Company retiring in 2002 after 50 years. He was a lifetime member of the Water Works Operators Association of PA. He received several awards including a special recognition by the Board of Directors of the PA section of the American Water Works Association. This recognition emphasized the efforts and leadership Robert had provided and the consistent service to various counsels and committees of the PA section of the American Water Works Association. Robert received the Elton David Walker Award for outstanding organizational leadership and service to the association in 1998-1999 and 1999-2000. In 2011, he received the Ivan M. Glace Award in recognition of his distinctive achievements and contributions to the Water Works Profession.
He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam War Era. Robert was a graduate of William Penn Senior High School.
Robert was a member of several organizations that include the Royal Order of Jesters Harrisburg Court 116 where he was a past director, White Rose Lodge 706, F&AM of York, Harrisburg Consistory, Zembo Temple, York County Shrine Club and Fraternal Order of Police.
He was also a lifetime member of the following: Rex Hook and Ladder Company of York County, Rescue Fire Company, Union Fire Company, Laurel Fire Company, York County Fire Museum, Heritage Foundation and the York County History Center (Historical Society of York). Robert was also a lifetime member of several social clubs that include, Victory Athletic Association, the Hawk Gunning Club, Viking Club and the Vigilant Club.
Those left to honor his memory are Sylvia “Sib” Tedesco Barley; 2 Godsons, Donald and Daniel; a nephew, Artie Rider and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 11, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market Street, York with Major Dennis E. and Major Erma D. Camuti of the Salvation Army of York officiating. A viewing will be held Thursday from 9:30-10:45 a.m. at the funeral home with a Masonic Service conducted by his lodge beginning at 10:45 a.m. Burial will be in Quickels Lutheran Church Cemetery with graveside military rites being conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
Robert was very thankful and appreciative to his many friends, including Stonybrook restaurant and special friends for over 60 years, Johnny and Wendy Keesee and Brewery Products.
