Obituary for C. Gohn
C. Dean Gohn, 90, of Wrightsville, died peacefully Friday, October 6, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. He was born August 11, 1927, the son of the late Chauncey and Flo (Dritt) Gohn. He was the loving husband of Marion L. (Stoutzenberger) Gohn, to whom he was married for 68 years.
Dean was a lifetime member of the former Grace United Methodist Church (presently Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church), where he and Marion were married by the Rev. C.R. Ness in 1949. Through the years, he served as a Church Trustee, Sunday School Secretary, and Head Usher.
Dean attended Wrightsville High School, and went onto to serve in the US Navy in the Pacific Theater of WWII. He was a Seaman 2nd Class on the Navy’s light aircraft carrier, the USS Independence. He was a member of the American Legion, Abel-Poff-Leithiser Post #469.
Dean worked for the National Biscuit Company for 22 years, and later went onto to work as a dispatcher for County Line Quarry from 1969 until his retirement.
Dean was a lifelong fan of the NY Yankees, and enjoyed watching the pinstripers every chance he got.
In addition to his wife Marion, Dean is survived by his son Randy Gohn of Mount Wolf, his daughters Jo Ann Beck, and her husband Deon Beck of York and Jo Lynn Beltz, widow of Theodore Beltz of York. He is also survived by his granddaughters Erin and Kelly Beck of York and Kacey Beltz of Sherman Oaks, CA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at 11:00 am from Wrightsville Hope United Methodist Church, 404 Hellam Street, Wrightsville, with Pastor James Wooster officiating. Interment will follow in Fairview Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the York County Veterans Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 am.
