Life Story for Dorothy Arendt (Carr)

Dorothy C. Arendt, wife of the late Chalmers W. Arendt, passed from this life on May 6, 2017, in Allentown, PA at Fellowship Manor Nursing Home.

Born on August 1, 1924 to Jere E. Carr and Clara R. (Mummert) Carr, she is survived by her son, Donald M. Arendt (Elizabeth) and by her daughter, Judy L. Arendt. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Heather Arendt, Paul Arendt and Emily Arendt and three great grandchildren, Kai Arendt, June Arendt and Ash Arendt. Her parents, husband and older sister, Donna C. Cornelius pre-deceased her.

Dorothy graduated from William Penn Senior High School in 1942 and completed secretarial training at Thompson’s Business School. She and Chalmers were married in January 1945, when he was on leave from the Navy.

For many years, Dorothy was an administrative assistant for the Manufacturers’ Association of York. A member of Faith U.C.C., she remained active with friends, neighbors and organizations until several years ago when the effects of Alzheimer’s finally slowed her down.

A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Prospect Hill Cemetery, 700 North George Street, York, with the Rev. Dr. Ron Oelrich officiating. Friends and family are asked to meet at the Pennsylvania Avenue entrance at 1:45 p.m.

During her life, Dorothy supported Faith U.C.C., LifePath Christian Ministries (formerly The York Rescue Mission) and the SPCA of York County. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that friends consider making a contribution in Dorothy’s memory to one of those organizations: Faith U.C.C., 509 Pacific Avenue, York, PA 17404; LifePath Christian Ministries, P.O. Box 1968, York, PA 17405; or to SPCA of York County, 3159 Susquehanna Trail North, York, PA 17406.

Arrangements by the Etzweiler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 1111 East Market Street, York, PA 17403.
